Project: Offering quality home-based care services to
families caring for the sick at home.
Sinikithemba Care Center is a community based organisation (CBO) in the Mhlumayo community which is located in Ndaka Municipality, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The Center employs, monitors and mentors trained volunteers doing home-based care in the area. Teams work to ensure that more families have access to quality medical services in remoter areas where transport is difficult and income is often marginal.
Community Based Organisations like Sinikithemba, have their own management structures, do their own fundraising and plan their own programs. Mr Nkosikhona Masondo is employed to capacitate these CBOs, growing administrative and organizational skills.

This is what we do...
Many single parent mothers take responsibility for adult children who became sick in the cities and returned home. Old traditional trades, like weaving grass mats for the lobola and wedding festivities, generate a good income, with hard, skilled work.

Care givers assist families to care for their sick at home, to generate income and with family-related relationship building.

Water is a permanent challenge in one of the poorest and under serviced municipalities in the province. This is a huge challenge for food gardens, hygiene of the sick and cooking. Fetching water, often far from home with drums on the head, is exhausting the care givers within the family structures.

Good healthy food , cultivated through Farming God’s Way(Foundations for Farming) and ACAT principles, makes a huge difference.
Training in soya production (an excellent cash crop) is also added to the training curriculum. |
